St. Philip’s Academy is a private K-8 school serving the children of the City of Newark. In 2007, St Philip’s Academy, moved to a newly renovated 56,000
square foot building that received numerous awards for its innovative reconstruction of a 90-year-old factory.
This project was registered with the U.S. Green
Building Council (USGBC) with the intent
of being the first LEED certified building in Newark. The goal was to achieve a LEED Silver rating. Though the new facility was previously “commissioned” in order to qualify for a LEED NC rating, the school has been plagued by significant HVAC operational and comfort issues,
as well as, high energy expenses since its opening. Representatives at St.
Philip's Academy retained The Ferreira Group to perform a diagnostic post construction commissioning study of the HVAC system. The goal of this study was to provide an independent investigation into the HVAC problems, make specific recommendations to rectify them, and assist in the implementation of the recommendations.
The systems that were commissioned by Ferreira Group professionals included: air-
conditioning units, terminal units, boilers and heat exchangers, ventilation units, circulating pumps, humidifiers, condensing units, radiant floor heating systems, temperature controls and several other pertinent pieces of equipment.
This project is currently underway, check
back for future updates. |
